Surgery or a sucker punch?

Mary Austin came through surgery beautifully. She never once complained of pain and has only had 2 doses of the prescription pain med the day of surgery to prevent pain. She is supposed to remain "quiet" for a few days however that is proving to be very difficult. She wants to be outside playing on the monkey bars.

All the grandparents were present and we had visits from Rev "Mr Craig" from church as well as Miss Elizabeth our director of Children's ministries. Once we got home the presents began; Mae got many "quiet toys" like Colorwonder and Colorforms, card games and a new movie - Nims Island (if you have not seen it you should it is v. cute).

We even had a few visits from friends. My BFF Natalie and her 2 girls - Lily, my godchild, and Mary Walker, precious baby girl just 8 weeks old. They brought balloons and a fun craft of tissue paper flowers. Somehow ours did not quite look like the ones on the package! Mary Austin was very proud of her band-aid on the IV site, hospital armband and bloody rag (from wiping her eye). Lily was not so impressed with the rag. She is just like her mom!

Mae's eye looks really good. When she first came back from surgery it was not very swollen yet and you could see a glimpse of what it would look like once healed. We were told by several people that our ocular plastic surgeon was one of the best in the Southeast. I must second that!

Mae arrived at the hospital in style. She got to choose a new gown and we got one that buttoned up the front since we were unsure about post-op bandages and such. The only ones that buttoned up the front were very fancy and frilly. She also insisted on a bow and wore a bracelet. I am sure we were quite the sight.

After our nap on Thursday afternoon, we got a surprise visit from 2 of my favorite and first students. (For my students reading this you are my favorites as well!)

They have now graduated and are in the "real world" of nursing.
